iQ Performance Issues - Slow opening lists

There are a number of items that can have an impact on iQ performance that often present themselves as different symptoms for the user.  In most cases the environment that the dataset resides is quite often the cause so a vital step in troubleshooting performance is to restore a copy of the data in a test (sandbox) environment.

Problem 1: Opening Lists is slow - can sometimes take 4 - 6 seconds

Possible Cause/Solution:

  • Presenting calculated properties on the list - properties that require a calculation to be performed prior to being displayed on screen will cause the opening and subsequent paging through this list to perform slowly as each time iQ must retrieve the data from the database, perform the calculations and then display it. An example of this could be displaying effective stock in multiple branches on the product list.
    • Reset the list to factory defaults OR remove each of the columns one by one to see which one's omission improves the performance of opening the list.
    • If the product list is slow, check that the location of Product Images (Set in Company Settings) is either NULL or pointing to a valid, and accessible to the client, location.
    • Ensure that the Notification Service is running and accessible (errors connecting to this will also present at user login)
    • Anti-virus software can quit often have an impact on retrieving data for clients
    • Check your network bandwidth.  It is recommended that the server to client connection is not slower than 1Gbps
    • Check the resources available to your database server. Quite often the DB will report errors in the Windows System or Application Event Logs on the host server

Problem 2: Saving a transaction is slower than normal

Possible Cause/Solution:

  • Presenting itself when the user press F9 to save and post a transaction, the time taken to present the user with a new transaction screen is longer than normal.
    • At the time of pressing F9 there are a number of steps that iQ processes.  First of all check any Custom Validation Rules that may be set on the relevant transaction type.  Check there are no conflicting rules and disable them one by one to monitor the impact on performance
    • Check printing rules.  If there are invalid printers (drivers / incorrect IP or address) this can present itself as a slow processing transactions
    • Another point on printing - if the rule is configured to use the Automatic feature - it is a worthwhile test to use the Output Service to remove the printing function from the PC
    • Signature Capture - any signature capture requirements may also have an impact on the performance. Disable the signature capture as a test

Problem 3: General Performance

Possible Cause/Solution:

  • Minimum and Recommended Hardware Requirements for Intact iQ are available in the SST01 - Sales Supporting Document
